Rich, Famous and politically connected – Always set free!!

Well, that is how it has been the case in terms of people who are rich, famous or politically connected (RFP). Commit a crime and don’t worry. You will always be set free. Either granted a bail for a very meagre amount immediately or completely set free on grounds of not enough evidence. People file petitions in court against such people and all that happens is that they are set free.

Whether the crime is of a hit and run case, or of rape, or of shooting down endangered animals or caught on camera accepting bribes, or pure cold blooded murder, when it is the turn of the RFP’s they always get away with it.

The number of cases registered against these RFP’s just keeps mounting and the courts never seem to come up with a judgment against them. Most times it is clearly shown on TV that a particular person committed the crime. But then, who cares? They got the money and the power. So there is no stopping them.

Once such people are caught for the offence committed we see a host of other RFP’s coming out in the open and fighting in there favour. They even come out in the open saying that on humanitarian grounds they should be let free. “Humanitarian Grounds” – What the hell? Then aren’t those affected by the offence also human? Aren’t those who spend years and years in prison for a crime they never committed also human? Where were these RFP’s when these people were convicted in court? Where were their voices? Where were all the media when such injustice was happening? Why do we see in media that such and such a RFP spent his night in prison along with other inmates and all he had was roti and dal? If he is an RFP then does it mean that he should get a 5-star accommodation? Why so much coverage? After all he is also just a citizen of India.

Please grow up people. The point I would like to make is that irrespective of whether an accused is a RFP or not if he deserves to be punished then let him be punished. The police and the law should do there work properly. The system needs to work. If the current system is not working then it needs to be changed, even if it means an entire overhaul of the system. The courts should come out with the judgements faster, rather than make people wait 10-15 years. By the time the courts give their judgment people have committed more crimes and the shear lack of pace in giving judgments makes them commit more crimes.

If the system stops working, then either the people of India will let the system be as it is or take the system in their hands and make it work. I believe that the latter is what will happen.

Please remember like I always say:
• No personal grudge or offence meant against any person/party/state.
• All facts mentioned were only top of the mind recall and any discrepancies were not intentional.
• Remember you came here to read my blog, I never asked you to, so don’t hold me responsible for hurting any sentiments.
