ManU v Liverpool - A mouth watering clash!!
The FA Cup 5th round draws are out. And guess what, its Manchester United v Liverpool. What a match this could be.
For all those who missed out, not long ago on Jan22nd these 2 teams met at Old Trafford and what a game it turned out to be. Clear cut chances for both teams, especially Liverpool (Cisse) and in the end in the 91st minute against all odds, Rio Ferdinand put ManU ahead with a stunning header. That was the decisive moment and the match ended 1-0 in favour of ManU. To add to the drams Gary Neville (ManU captain) has been charged by the FA because he supposedly over celebrated the goal ion front of the travelling scouser fans by running the length of the pitch and kissing his shirt. The earlier match ended as a stalemate (0-0) at Anfield and it turned out to be a boring contest.
Why is this match so important for both teams? Let’s just look at some of the reasons:
1. These two teams have absolutely dominated English Football in the past 2 decades. Liverpool in the 80’s and ManU in the 90’s. It is believed that whoever wins this game eventually reigns in English Football, or so it was believed in those days.
2. With Chelsea sitting pretty at the top of the table with a 14 point lead it looks very unlikely that either of these 2 teams will stop them and so the Barclays Premier League is out of sight for both.
3. Manchester United is out of Europe, while Liverpool is out of the Carling Cup (the final is between ManU and Wigan).
4. Arsenal is fast losing ground in English football and this is the right time to consolidate themselves as at least the second best team in English Football this season.
Over and above all this, man its Manchester United against Liverpool. It is the the biggest rivalry in English Football. What more do you want? Want to know more, ask any ManU and Liverpool fan and they will tell you “It doesn’t matter if we don’t win any cup as long as we beat ManU / Liverpool”
So don’t forget to miss this mouth watering clash on Feb 19th 2006.
No points for guessing which team I am supporting. Its Manchester United all the way!!
Glory Glory Manchester United!!!
